Hawthorne Road near Hawthorne High School

Near Hawtorne High School, there’s a speed trap. The posted speed limit starts at 25, and progresses to 35, to 45, to 55, to 60, all within 1 mile. I was pulled over going 55 in a 25, since the posted speed limit was recently 45-50.

On Newberry rd. between 62nd(mall) and 43rd. Officer sits down a side street on the south side of the road, as you go up the hill. He’s there 3-4 days a week around 5pm.

Motorcyle Cops hidden on side of Archer Road between 34th & Shands…they use the construction as cover..Remeber the speed limit is a ridiculous 35mph on the widest road in Gainseville.. I made the mistake of assuming it was 45mph as on the smaller 34th street a $161.00 mistake

University Avenue near 20th Street

Gainesville, FloridaJan 17, 20040 Comments

Going westbound on University Ave. just after you go by the stadium, 2 motorcycle police sit to the right behind a fence of a construction site. The two motorcycle officers sit on 20th st. and radar the oncoming traffic just west of the bars. I pass the area every day of the week and 3 of the 5 weekdays they are there. I haven’t noticed them much on weekends.

Interstate 75 near Newberry Road

Gainesville, FloridaDec 31, 20030 Comments

If headed north on I-75, police will often times set up a speed trap just past the Newberry Rd. exit (midway between the Newberry and 39th Ave exits). One officer will radar/laser from beneath the next overpass and then communicate with other patrol cars to make the stop. I have seen as many as three or four cars pulled over at the same time. Police know that many students are heading toward SFCC for morning classes.
