The city operates a speed trap, the city has less than 500 people. HWY 133 where the officer park to run radar is not in the city yet . The new 4 lane widening was not put into the city they just move the city limit sign. So if you get or have gotten a speeding citation while the were running radar in that area you can send a complaint to Investigation P.O.S.T P.O. Box 349 | Clarkdale, GA 30111 | 770-732-5974 | Fax 770-732-5952 has to be in writing. This differently illegal speed trap. THIS NEEDS TO BE STOPPED!
Small town of Berlin, GA
This city should be ashamed of it’s police force. I was driving 44 mph (in a 45 mph zone), following behind a slow moving dump truck, that was part of the road construction going. A patrol car fell in behind me, blue lights flashing. I knew I wasn’t speeding, so I slowed down and pulled over to let the patrol car pass. Instead he stayed behind me. So, I pulled over. This guy in civilian clothes gets out (shaking and beating on the side of his radar gun, and walks up to my car. He says “Is there any reason you are speeding through this construction zone?” I told him that I was not speeding. He first told me I was going 61 in a 55, then changed it to 51 in a 45, THEN, he finally decided that I was going 61 in a 45. I told him that I wasn’t speeding. He says, “Don’t worry, we are going to take care of you, just hold on.” He goes back to his patrol car, and I assume he ran my license and tag. After 5 minutes or so, he comes back and tells me that he is only going to write me a ticket for driving too fast for conditions. However, the temp was 80 degrees, mostly sunny, with only 1 other vehicle on the road, besides me. He says, “I gave you this instead of a speeding ticket, because it would be over $350”. I feel like he took the path of least resistance, while still soaking me to the tune of $171. I am retired federal law enforcement, and I am telling you now, what he did was not only illegal, but morally wrong. From what I have been able to find out about this town, no one EVER wins a case in city court. So, I will go ahead and make this donation to the coffers of this pitiful little town. I suppose, they need it more than me and my family does.
Highway 133 within the city limits
There is road construction in this area. The speed limit bounces back and forth between 45 mph and 55 mph. There will be a city patrol car sitting backed up at a small store called Dipa Food Mart. He is sitting in within site of the 55 mph sign (heading towards Moultrie). You have to slow down fast when you enter the 45 mph zone, because he is just ahead. And even though you can see the 55 mph sing just ahead, he doesn’t care. The little city patrolman will still issue the ticket.
State Highway Highway 333 near State Highway Highway 76
Between Moultrie and Valdosta, or Moultrie and Quitman there sit’s a county unit that normally backed into a service station parking lot. Highway limit starts out at 55 MPH, all of a sudden you find yourself in a 35 MPH. By the time you begain to lower your speed, you’ve been clocked and stopped.
