East Point, Georgia Speed Traps

Officer stands on his doorsill and targets you at the top of the hill (1750ft away) and claims to nail you. Advice: change lanes immediately, slow down and settle behind a truck till you pass. He could never identify your car from that distance. I didn’t. My fine $360 for 81 in a 55.

East Point is a small municipality just outside the City of Atlanta. They have jurisdiction over the southwest corridor of Interstate 285 which circles Atlanta. EPPD officers are particularly aggressive during morning rush hour in pulling over speeders. Obviously this is a tremendous source of revenue for that small town.

Sign post with limit is difficult to see. The speed limit is 55 for a Highway where people are averaging anywhere to 65 to 85 miles per hour.

A friend who was on the police force told me they have a quota suystem. He gave me a list of officer names and the number of tickets written by each. The officers privately have a contest each month. The speed limit is 35-40, but should be 45-55. The traps are of every kind, sitting, with traffic or against. They commonly arrest the speeder which is also a contest to see who can book the most speeders.
