Cops seem to almost always hang out between Mattis & Prospect on Springfield Ave.
I-57 northbound
At the construction sites along I-57 N from Effingham though Champaign, patrol sits on other side of bridge. There is no construction at these sites.
State St., side streets between John St, and Hessel Blvd
Typically situated on side-streets along State St., between John and Hessel; usually William, Charles, or Stanage, facing East, which would be on your right as State St. is a southbound one-way of two lanes, posted at 30mph (recently lowered). Favorite times are rush hour AM and PM, especially 8:55AM, which is when someone would almost be late to work at the business park south of Kirby Ave, futher down State St.
on I -57 near I -74
Those of you thinking about watching the bears at U of I next fall, beware. Illinois state police like to hang out within 5 miles of I-74 on I-57. They use "instant on" 99% of the time.
University Ave. between Mattis and Prospect
I-72 comes into Champaign and officially ends and turns into University Ave.at Country Fair Dr.Next light is Mattis and the speed limit drops to 30MPH and Champaign Police regularly sit on the sidestreets and radar University. Particularly by Dr.Howard school.
