Glen Carbon, Illinois Speed Traps
Interstate 255 near I-270 both directions
Interstate 255 near I270 the Illinois State Police will have Motorcycles and patrol cars to pull you over just after the crest on an overpass and just after getting onto 255 from 270 west, or while heading north on 255 towards 270 E/W. There is a marked no u turn pull off and the cars will sit there, but the motorcycle sits just beyond the crest if heading southbound on 255.
State Route 159 near Interstate 270
Just north of the 159 and 270 ramps, there is a cop car sitting in grassy area of private residence’s driveway; they are mostly monitoring traffic heading south from 159 Glen Carbon/Edwardsville. The speed limit is 45, almost everyone is doing at least 50-55.
Old Troy Road near South of bike trail
Travelling south past Huntington Place subd, the speed limit is 30 mph, which does seem very slow for a limited access type road, but when it opens up into an uninhabited area with farmers fields on either side, and no speed limit signs are posted (in either direction), the police will hide in the parking area for the bike trail. Note that travelling BACK up the other side of the same road when coming from under hwy 270, the speed limit signage indicates that the speed limit is still 40 mph on the same stretch of road!
Meridan Road near Smola Road
Squad cars park in grass on right at intersection of Meridian and Smola. Speed limit is thirty. This is a hilly road. It is impossible to do thirty. Limit should be 50.
IL Route 159, .5m N of I-270
Just north of the other trap, on the East side of the road, Squad will literally be sitting in the trees, off the road about 20 feet. Facing southbound, so mostly getting North bound drivers. 45MPH speed limit. Occassionally there during the day AND while there is another unit at the other location. WATCH OUT! Glen Carbon has silver OR white units, Crown Vics, Impalas, or Durango
