Monee, Illinois Speed Traps
The police like to sit in new/used car lots. Because there are so many cars, they can’t be seen until it’s too late (35 MPH). The car dealerships are on the north and south sides of town. Beware!
W Crete-Monee/W Court Street/Co HWY 21/2nd Street: basically all the same street between S Will Center Road and HWY 50/Governors HWY. Police sit behind a limo ‘party’ bus, park parking lot, and side streets all along this short stretch. Speed limit is 30 and best be doing exactly that. They are there at all times of day and night.
Short strectch of country road between Old Monee Road and S. Will Center Road, just north of Monee. Nothing there except cornfields and entrance to Governor’s State University nature preserve but the posted speed limited is 35 MPH. Police car sits in entrance to nature preserve any time of day or, early in morning will be under shade of trees along side of road, facing east just east of Will Center Rd.
Along Monee Road east of Will Center Road in the fairly new 40 MPH zone in a rural area. The cops sit in the parking lot at Will-Center Road and Monee Road watching for speeders and stop sign cruisers, or about 50 yards back on one of the county dirt roads waiting to pounce. A true revenue generator.
They like to sit either on Kuersten, Wil-Center near the church or right off of Old Monee Road and wait for you. The speed limit has recently been changed to 40 mph when heading West into town at Old Monee Road and you’d better be doing 40mph.
