Skokie, Illinois Speed Traps
Oakton Street near Niles Center Street
They called it a seatbelt enforcement but wrote a ticket for an equipment violation. Plus we did not see any signs indicating a checkpoint. I think that is illegal by not having signs. I’m sure this is just a revenue generator. I visit family in Skokie and the way the neighborhoods/schools/parks are drastically turning for the worse, I hope the revenue is going for more police. Can someone anwswer the legality of posting checkpoint signs and if they have been a victim of illegal money generator for Skokie?

Lincoln-Galitz Street near Niles Center Road
On September 29, 2006, I recieved a ticket for a seat belt violation at the intersection of Niles Center/Lincoln/Galtiz. There had to be 12 officers running in and out of traffic placing markers on peoples windows and then telling them to pull into a lot were they received a ticket. I was visiting a friend in Skokie and he tells me the police do this at least a couple of times in a week. I just got into my car and was pulling out of the bank lot and had not drove more than 20 feet when this crazy cop started yelling at me to pull into a lot. I admit I did not have it on but was starting to put it on as I left the parking lot. I also saw a officer as I was leaving with a $35.00 ticket, with a radar in the middle of the street trying to get cars approching this area for speeding. Be careful driving through this part of Skokie for this type of speed/seat belt trap.
Oakton Street near Lincoln/Galitz Intersection
The intersection is located on Lincoln at Galitz. I have now seen on several occasions the police enforcing some sort of speed trap zone in this area. Some will sit a block away running radar, while the rest of them put up cones and flashing "disks" and run around wearing yellow hats and vests. A cop..presumably the boss, runs into the middle of the street screaming things and slapping stickers on all offending car windshields. It is very dangerous for him and the unsuspecting motorists to do such a thing. The "stickered" cars are then ushered into a lot and written speeding tickets by other taller officers who didn’t even witness an offense. I can’t understand how they can issue the citation if they didn’t even see it. Be careful of this area. I go to work this way every morning, and once I saw this trap run 4 times in one week. Can we say, revenue trap! Sheesh!
McCormick Boulevard near Howard Street
Cop sits in parking spot east of NB McCormick lanes, just north of Howard Street. Can nail NB vehicles breezing through Howard light or SB vehicles racing around curve, who cannot see him in time.
