River Road near Interstate 55

Living in Wilmington and working in Minooka I always come home taken I-55 and getting off at the Wilmington Exit (River Rd.) This road takes you through a conservation area with a 55 speed limit. Police are constantly cruising this rd. because it’s long and wooded and most people tend to go 60-65. You will get stopped for anything over 5 mph.

Strip Mine Road near Kerry Lane

I go from wilmington to Joliet daily, and I always take Strip Mine Road to 129 to 55. I’ve known for years that the cops radar thoroughly. The speed limit is 50 mph, but the road feels like a 65 mph-er. DO NOT BE FOOLED! If you’re coming from wilmington, just after Dockside Marine, there’s a little hill. Just on the other side of that hill is a gravel "road" Sitting just far enough back in that gravel road you will likely see a white crown vic – marked. If he’s not there he’s probably driving up and down the road, so watch your tail! He’s there every morning/afternoon.

New River Road between Rt. 53 and I-55

Wilmington, IllinoisSep 13, 20020 Comments

The City of Wilmington recently annexed this road that brings you to Interstate 55. Wilmington Police immediately started patrols (they usually use their unmarked Crown Vics, one blue and one white. One car sits on the east side of I-55 on New River Road (usually on the north shoulder) and the other car sits on boat house road. By the time you see them, you better get your license and insurance card ready. Forget the last minute seatbelt hookup. The blue unmarked Crown Vic has a dash mounted camera. All cars have dash/rear radar. They generally cut you a break and only write it up for a $75 dollar fine.

River Road

A one mile stretch from Rt.53(the Shell station) to Coal City Rd(the curve). They patrol this section or hide in the many asides along here. Coming from the south the speed changes from 55 to 45 but people often don’t catch it because the sign is right as you are coming around the curve. If you’re not paying close attention, you could easily miss it. Also as you are going Southbound and accelerating, it is very easy to go over without realizing and they’ll be hiding, waiting to nab you.
