Merrillville, Indiana Speed Traps

Heading southbound on Mississippi St. (from 61st ave) toward 69th Ave., Merrillville police like to sit back on an unfinished section of 69th that crosses Mississippi St. and is hidden with trees & brush as people cross over the overpass. You don’t see them until it’s too late.

North and Southbound on I-65 just north of Route 30. The speed limit goes from 70 to 55. Everday especially late afternoon the state troopers park on the left lane shoulder. People are pulled over here everyday.

From I-65 to Broadway on 61st Ave, traveling west bound is a speed trap. The speed limit is 30 mph. in a buss./resd. area. The road is four lanes and while traveling west bound, you have to do the speed limit because just ahead of you on the north side of the road, where you can not see, there is usually a police officer standing outside of his car with a radar gun pointing it right at you. Don’t look for the police unit because you wont be able to see it! The officers are usually located in the shopping mall area. Be alert and careful!

Cops continually cruise I-65 between Merrillville and the 80/94 exits in undercover cars. Don’t go over 55-60mph, because this area is heavily patrolled.
