Southport, Indiana Speed Traps
This is an unmarked new Mustang seen stopping cars along Southport Rd. A favorite hiding place is a rental facility parking lot directly across from the entrance to Southern Dunes housing division.
Marked and unmarked police cars, including the newer Mustangs patrol this stretch of highway and write tickets. Speed limit is 55mph and it is not unusual for traffic to be traveling over the limit.
Hides on side streets or in Church parking lot
Patrolman constantly patrol streets especially routes used by Indianapolis residents using a shortcut. Speed limits are 20 MPH. You will be ticketed going 25 MPH.
Southport is a small suburb on the southeast site of Indianapolis. Several major streets including Madison and Arlington pass next to it. The speed trap is that most of the streets in Southport are a sparsely posted 20 MPH zone. That’s right 20 MPH. Since many cars idle about that fast, be prepared to ride the brakes. Neighboring roads outside Southport limits are typically 35-40 MPH. Southport is notorious for encouraging its local police to generate additional revenue for the city through tickets.
