City streets
Southport is a small suburb on the southeast site of Indianapolis. Several major streets including Madison and Arlington pass next to it. The speed trap is that most of the streets in Southport are a sparsely posted 20 MPH zone. That’s right 20 MPH. Since many cars idle about that fast, be prepared to ride the brakes. Neighboring roads outside Southport limits are typically 35-40 MPH. Southport is notorious for encouraging its local police to generate additional revenue for the city through tickets.
