US Highway 41 near Overpass North of the Courthouse

Terre Haute, IndianaApr 30, 20070 Comments

Police normally sit in the parking lot at the bottom of the overpass (south side) using radar guns. The speed limit on highway 41 (also called north 3rd street) is 40 mph on the north side of the overpass, but at the overpass and on the south side it is 30 mph. It is very easy for people to miss the 30 mph speed limit sign posted right before the overpass and by the time you factor in the step grade coming down the overpass you can easily exceed 45 mph in the 30 mph zone.

Indiana has a posted 65 mph speed limit until you clear Terre Haute when it is 70 mph. State Troopers routinely set in the 65 mph area. Somewhat liberal, traffic drives 70-75 mph. They are hunting for people driving 80 mph.

The cops will sit in the parking lot of the fire station and radar you as you drive down Springhill, particularly if you are going west down the hill just before 12th St. Speed limit is 30, but you can safely do 45 through there easily.

When you are on HWY 46 heading West towards Bloomington, IN there is a strectch of straigh away where people manage to exceed the 55MPH speed limit. Also people see this as a good way to speed and pass people before the curvy road begins. If heading west on 46 this stretch of road is between terre haute and the red blinking lights. If heading east after the red blinking lights and Terre haute. The sit off the road on state roads…or they drive up and down the road tracking cars that pass them by. Its happened to me and my friends three times. Even if your going hte slightest over…its a big road used for college students to travel down, their constantly targeting people
