Ontario Street between North Dakota & Arizona Avenues

Ames, IowaOct 05, 20100 Comments

South side of the street right by Sawyer Elementary School. Police car sits just East of the school. I live a few blocks away and I see a speed trap set here almost every weekday, especially during school hours.

Some East bound drivers get caught, but mostly West bound traffic. Speed limit is 25 and strictly enforced.

S 16th St in between Duff and University

Ames, IowaJun 28, 20101 Comments

I was heading West on S 16th St from Duff towards University and right after I passed the apartment buildings on the left before the open field there was a cop hiding behind the trees. No way to see him until you were right in front of him. Use caution when around this area. I’ve only seen this once so far, but just a warning.

Where 13th street starts, between Hyland and Stange next to Veenker golf course. Officer sighted standing in the median at the low spot with a radar gun pointed east. Most drivers go at least 35, posted limit is 30.

Mortensen Road near Hayward Avenue

Ames, IowaJul 23, 20071 Comments

at the intesection of Hayward Ave and Mortensen will be a Red Barn with a somewhat hidden parking lot patrolled constantly by Iowa State University and Ames Police. These officers will sit in the parking lot and shoot radar in all 3 directions to catch speeders ( North,West,East). Most times without a radar detector, drivers will never see the officer until it’s too late.

Lincoln Way near S Oak Avenue

Ames, IowaJul 23, 20070 Comments

Heading Eastbound on Lincoln Way approaching Grand Avenue will be a LASER SPEEDTRAP. Ames officers will have 6 or 7 patrol cars parked along South Oak Avenue ready to deploy 1 unit for each speeding vehicle. 1 Officer 1 STAND at the corner of Lincoln Way and South Oak Ave HIDING behind a TREE with a LASER gun pointed westbound. He will then radio to the awaiting officers your vehicle’s description, then you’re done, there’s nowhere to turn or anything.
