Ontario Street between North Dakota & Arizona Avenues

Ames, IowaOct 05, 20100 Comments

South side of the street right by Sawyer Elementary School. Police car sits just East of the school. I live a few blocks away and I see a speed trap set here almost every weekday, especially during school hours.

Some East bound drivers get caught, but mostly West bound traffic. Speed limit is 25 and strictly enforced.

S 16th St in between Duff and University

Ames, IowaJun 28, 20101 Comments

I was heading West on S 16th St from Duff towards University and right after I passed the apartment buildings on the left before the open field there was a cop hiding behind the trees. No way to see him until you were right in front of him. Use caution when around this area. I’ve only seen this once so far, but just a warning.

The are 2 Location on this hill that are used by stationary officers. when headed southbound downhill there will be 2 private church parking lots on your right hand side. The first parking lot is well hidden behind a bunch on bushes ( you won’t see the officer till u pass it), the other parking lot is located directly at the bottom of the hill next to a small yellow house. in this parking lot, officers will sit backwards between other parked cars to shoot radar. Bottom line( do not speed on hyland ave AT ALL either north or southbound.

Mortensen Road near State Street

Ames, IowaJul 23, 20070 Comments

The location is a quick route home from ISU campus bars thus Iowa State police use it as well. Headed westbound on mortensen rd immediately following the STATE STREET intersection, to your left will be 2 areas where ISU Police sit. 1 is a parking lot between 2 barns, and the second is a little farther down the road off in the ditch. In neither of these locations will Police have ANY lights on.
