Dubuque, Iowa Speed Traps
Cheney Road between Kauffman and Asbury Road
No houses face this section of Cheney. Turning from Kauffman onto Cheney goes from 30 to 25. It is an easy stop for police.
Hwy 20 Peosta Exits
There are usually highway patrol or peosta cops on the on ramps and off ramps. They are sometimes under the overpass. Slow down or look alive when going past peosta.
St. Matthew’s Church on White St, between 17th & 18th
Especially in the evening, a cop will sit in the parking lot, a ways back in the lot, so that you won’t see them, even if you look. Generally, to see them, you have to look behind you after you’ve gone past the lot. White St. is busy and it’s not unusual for traffic to move a bit quicker than the 25mph speed limit, but watch it when going past this church.
Dubuque County Courthouse, parking lot in rear on White St.
Normally only in the evening, once the parking lot behind the courthouse is mostly empty for the evening, there will be a cop sitting in the lot watching White St. This is only a couple blocks after exiting Hwy 151/61 from the White St. exit, and if you take your time dropping your speed from highway speed to the posted 25mph, they’ll easily get you once you come into their view. As soon as you exit the highway there, be sure to reduce your speed.
Corner of Kelly Ln and Edwards Rd.
The cop will usually be on Edwards, watching traffic in both directions on Kelly Ln. There’s a high bank on either side of Edwards, but the cop will normally park right at the corner, making the front of the squad car visible from a ways back, making it possible to slow down before he can see you. However, they will occasionally park further back on Edwards, so that they can only be seen right as you go past the street. If you’re speeding past there, you won’t have a chance to slow down before they clock you.
