Topeka, Kansas Speed Traps
They like to sit on the NE loop of the cloverleaf of the Holton exit. Also from HWY 75 to Goodyear along Hwy 24 where the traffic is always faster than the posted limit.
The Kansas Highway Patrol will put an officer in one of the toll booths with a hand held LIDAR unit. The speed limits aproaching the toll booths is 30 MPH, and reaches back about 1.5 miles from the booths. The Topeka Police Department and the Shawnee County Sheriff office also set at the toll booths on the westbond side with the highway patrol running down cars an trucks for driving through the booths to fast with there K-Tag transponders. The speed limit is 10 MPH if you have one. Motor Carrier Enforcement officers also use the booths.
When you are traveling west on Huntoon they will be waiting just before Fairlawn in the first parking lot of Retirenment Complex west of McFarland Farms across from Bus Stop. When traveling east on Huntoon they are waiting where the two lanes connect to one. Indian Hills Ct.
The cops will set up on the exit ramps to catch speeders on the interstate or set up to catch you on Carnahan right where the speed limit changes from 45 to 30. I used to deliver in this area and they would set up here at any time of day.
At 21st and Wannamaker, there is a big hill west on 21st street past a gas station running next to the Westridge Mall. If you are coming DOWN that hill heading east, it is hard to maintain your speed, and cops LOVE to sit at the base of that hill with their car parked out of site. They will stand on the corner with a radar gun IN HAND and catch people coming down that hill too fast, then pull you off to the side and give you a ticket! WATCH OUT!
