School zone on Highway 54. Unsure as to exactly what time this is a school zone as it’s not posted anywhere. Regular speed is 35. School zone speed is 20. Ticket was $285. City amended ticket but only if you pay original fine and costs and another $150 “amendment fee”. Total of $435!

School Zone is improperly marked. There are no signs saying where the school zone ends. There are no hours that this is a school zone. Last year according to the Yates Center Police Department website they wrote $57,000 worth of tickets in this area. Police hide in the back of an empty lot beside the gymnastics studio out of site when cars are parked at the studio.

Rte. 54

Going west to east on Rte.54 A state highway the speed goes from 50 to 35mph through the center of town. Then there is a 20 MPH school zone. No school in site. But we got a ticket for 39MPH in 20 MPH zone. Almost $350 which included a $120 Court cost fee. We were heading from Wichita back to Connecticut. We had a great trip out to see our grand daughter for the first time she is 6 months old. Our vacation was totally ruined by this Revenue creating speed trap. I am happy to say the people in CT Generate money through taxing their residents not fleecing visitors.

US Highway 75

It is a well known fact that if you drive Highway 75 through Yates Center, KS you better slow down. It is 100% speed trap! Coming from the North it suddenly goes to 50 miles per hour but what’s bad is when you get to the city limits it drops without warning! Coming from the South isn’t as bad but they monitor going both ways. Anyone that lives in the area or drives through there knows to creep through town.
