Cardinal Drive (highway 1600) near Westport Road

Elizabethtown, KentuckyFeb 19, 20110 Comments

The speed limit on Cardinal Drive (1600) between Westport Road and Johnstown Road used to be 55. It is now 35 on this short stretch (which is in the vicinity of the US31W Bypass overpass). Cars coming into Elizabethtown arrive at this speed trap after traveling down a steep hill where the speed limit is 55. Suddenly, at the bottom of this hill, the speed limit drops to 35. One can only get to 35 by standing on the brakes. Motorists traveling away from E’town should also be careful here because the natural inclination is to speed up when crossing the overpass because of the approaching steep hill. Don’t do it – police frequently run radar at this speed trap.

Veterans Way

Speed limit is 45 but could easily be 55 because this is a wide road in a rural setting that invites faster speeds. Police like to set up just beyond the crest of a hill where motorists can’t see them until it’s too late.

Coming into Elizabethtown from Louisville on the four-lane Hwy, the last exit into Elizabethtown, the state police sit on the shoulder of the four-lane Hwy in unmarked camaros, and you can’t see them until it’s too late, because of a slight rise in the highway.

Using ‘instant on’ type radar, either cruising back and forth or hiding along bushes by Golf Course. Patrols on weekend evenings are non-stop, but E-Town police patrol Pine Valley every day several times. Beware!
