Georgetown, Louisiana Speed Traps
US Highway 165 near Railroad overpass
About the only source of revenue that little town has. Dpty. will allow you to pay early and will not send in info to insurance company. Speed trap has been in existance as long as I can remember.
US Highway 165 near city limts sign
Just after Georgetown city limts sign on Hwy 165, there is ussually a local police car shooting radar. I’ve seen the car as early as 5:45 am and as late as 9:00 pm. Lots of tickets are given out since Hwy 165 goes from 65 mph to 45 mph as it goes thru the tiny town of Georgetown.
US Highway 165
There is a bridge just north of town. The speed limit before the bridge is 55. Just over the bridge (southbound) the speed limit drops to 35 instantly and is posted with a very inconspicuous sign.
US 165
Local police vehicle waiting on north side of town for northbound traffic coming down slope of a railroad overpass, which makes it very likely that the traveller will be over the limit, which is a ridiculously low 45 mph (this is barely a town, just a wide spot in the road).
US 165 through town
White marked police vehicle in abandoned parking lot north of a railroad overpass on U.S. 165. Cars coming down the north slope of the overpass tend to exceed the 45 mph speed limit and are ticketed. The fines are absolutely outrageous. I was hit for $185!
