Bethesda, Maryland Speed Traps
Old Georgetown Road near Battery Lane
Normally on weekend nights around midnight, 2-4 Police and Sheriff units sit on Eastside of road at Battery Lane or in Rescue Squad parking lot and go after traffic going both directions, but tend to focus on Northbound. Officers seem to look for drunk drivers, often letting others go quickly with verbal warnings.
State Route 355 – Rockville Pike near Elsmere Avenue
Outbound Rt. 355 (Rockville Pike) after you pass Navy Med, cross Cedar Lane at the bottom of the hill, & blast up the far side (thinking you’ve escaped the regular speed trap in front of Navy Med) you race up the hill, crest it…and there is county PD sitting on Elsmere Avenue, shooting LIDAR as you pick up speed going downhill again, well over the 35mph limit. There’s nowhere to hide or turn – you’re right on top of him, and vice versa. Pray the car beside you is moving faster.
Westlake Road near Tuckerman Lane
Officer is often in driveway on eastern side of Westlake leading to the school bus depot. Will nab you if you exceed posted speed limit of 30mph – no matter how little.

Connecticut Avenue near Medical Center stoplight
Westbound, going up the long hill by the Naval Medical Ctr, is a daytime speed trap. MC sometimes has a motorcycle cop park in the first Medical Center turnoff, where the use radar (and possibly lidar) to cite westbound traffic. You can’t see them until you’re on top of them. They setup in late AM, and run for a few hours.
