Parkville, Maryland Speed Traps
Oakleigh Road just North of Taylor Avenue (Briarcliff Rd.)
About 3 blocks North of Taylor Avenue just after Briarcliff Road is a small business with no signage. Cops in unmarked cars (usually dark sedans) set up a speed trap, especially during morning commute hours. This is on the right hand side when heading toward Joppa Rd, just past the apartments. The cop that gave me a $210 ticket would not wait the 10 seconds that it took me to grab my registration from the glovebox. Don’t even bother to try to reason with him. All that he kept repeating was “just pay the fine”. Obviously, ONLY set up for revenue production.
California Ave. at Avondale Rd.
California Ave is adjacent to a highway overpass. Usually, radar is pointed at s/b traffic on Avondale since the bridge limits motorist’s visibility to the south. They will also sit under the overpass to tag people in both directions (facing north with deck lid open). Although recently there has been little activity, this particular location becomes very active during the summer holiday weekends.
Putty Hill Rd and Loch Raven Blvd
There is a Catholic elementary school on the corner. they normally sit in the parking lot of the school to catch people coming up Putty Hill towards Loch Raven. Sometimes a motorcyle officer sits on Putty Hill in front of the school as well.
Eastbound Putty Hill @ Parkville Highschool
Recently, they installed a speed camera on a pole pointing towards east bound Putty Hill Road at this location. It is right before the entrance to the parking lot of Parkville High School’s track.
