Brookline, Massachusetts Speed Traps
Eastbound @ Marion – 1400’s
As mentioned in another posting, the Brookline Police face oncoming traffic in the open parking spaces in the median along the Green line tracks. I lived at 1455 Beacon St the past year and as you leave Washington Sq heading East towards Coolidge Corner and Kenmore Sq., there is a small hill and it’s easy to pick up speed. Although there are 3 full lanes of traffic and no lights for about a half mile, the speed limit is only 30mph and the officers turn off all of their lights ( no yellow running lights ) They go after everyone and they ticket hard !
Beacon St. Westbound — St. Mary’s St. after the Boston line
Brookline police set up in available parking spaces in the median. East of Coolidge Corner it’s on the Westbound side and vice versa. The Marion St. trap has been mentioned. I was nearly got nailed on 2/3/01 near St. Mary’s. The cop grabbed the taxi that accelerated faster than me.
West Roxbury Parkway near Putterham Mdws Golf Club and Putterham Circle
W Roxbury Pkwy is divided and 2 lanes in this short segment as you approach the traffic circle, but the speed limit is only 35. I have seen numerous cars pulled over on this stretch. Once I saw the trap set up in the parking lot of the Golf club on the right travelling NW toward the circle. (You crest a slight hill and curve as you approach). In the SE direction I picked off a cop parked in a private driveway using K-band radar. Brookline cops tend to leave their K-band on or maybe they lack instant-on capability. "Your speed is …xxx" units use X-band in Brookline whereas they usually have K-band in Boston.
