State Highway 12 Truman Road near Brookside Avenue

Independence, MissouriDec 15, 20050 Comments

Highway 12 (Truman Road) is four-lane (undivided) and quite clear with one side street accessing the road for the space of about six blocks. From the widely-known "Stone Arch" overpass of Blue Ridge Blvd. to Brookside Ave. is a large valley where you gain speed without touching your accelerator. The police like to sit out-of-sight near Brookside Ave. at the east end of the valley. Staying in the speed limit is difficult to say the least. Independence fixes speed limits low in order to enhance revenues.

For about six blocks in front of the Truman Library the road is elevated, divided, four-lane with no side-street access. The speed limit is 35mph. The most reasonable driver would feel perfectly safe at 50mph. The speed limit should be no more than 45mph. It is obvious that Independence sets its speed limits low so as to enhance their revenue.
