Hamilton Road. Across from the brick factory.

Hillsborough police love to stake out at night across from the brick yard and radar people on Hamilton Road. This is a perfect location for a speed trap. Westbound traffic has to come over a sharp hill, which interferes with radar detectors. Right before the hill the speed limit drops from 45mph to 35mph. Though well posted, you quickly have to drop your speed while going down a steep decline. I would guess they are there at least a few times a month, more likely at night, but I’ve seen activity during the daytime as well.

Intersection of Rt. 206 and Old Somerville Road

Rt. 206 takes a sharp bend at the intersection with Old Somerville Road. There is a small triangular strip of land where these two roads meet with a billboard on it. Late one night I was traveling northbound on Rt. 206 and my radar detector went nuts. As I approached this intersection, I noticed a police cruiser, lights off, sitting behind the billboard and facing southbound. Fortunately, I wasn’t speeding thanks to the warning my detector gave me.

Rt. 206, in the construction zone south of Dukes Parkway E.

late-night speedtrap – counted three cars, on both northbound and southbound sides, at 2:30 AM on a Sunday morning. Trolling for drunks? Ticketed for 58 mph in a 40 mph zone – no speed limit signs posted (at least not where headlights can pick them up – I’m bringing a camera to get pictures for the court date – no ‘guilty’ plea for me). Usual speed limit on there is 50.
