Canandaigua, New York Speed Traps
Saltonstall Street near County Rd 46 Road
As you come into the city limits on Saltonstall street ( country rd 46) from the area from the Junkyard area to the county highway building. Both the city & County like to set up traps on the right hand side. Sometimes they are in a path just after the junkyard but most of the time they like to sit in a drive to an abandoned building well hidden by tall weeds & thick brush (speed limit drops to 30 just after you cross the small bridge) They give you just a couple mph over the limit, but just don’t push it too far
State Route 332 near Main Street
When entering city limits the police dept. sits in a private citizens driveway or a restaurants parking lot.
North Main Street near American Legion
As you enter Canandaigua from the north on Main Street (State Route 332) there is almost always a city cop sitting just past the American Legion with his radar gun. You can’t see him until you are right on top of him. They are partial to ticketing out of state vehicles. Beware, drive 30mph to be safe anywhere on Main Street.
Stretch between NYS Thruway Exits 45 & 44
Speed limit is 65mph. State Troopers have no heart in this area. I was in the passing lane going down an incline hill, he was at the bottom of the incline. My speed was 72mph, I was unfamiliar with the area. He gave me a ticket, wrote on the ticket that I was going 80mph. Fine was stiff. Travel this route quite often — they’re almost always out and about in both directions (E/W)– Watch out!
