New Windsor, New York Speed Traps
Route 300 in the Steak and Stein Restaurant’s Parking Lot
State troopers and sometimes New Windsor Town cops from time to time sit in their cruisers to the right of the restaurant, close to the bush behind the parking lot, and shoot their Ka guns at North bound traffic on Rt. 300. I have been surprised that the town cops actually have Ka guns since New Windsor is not exactly the richest town around here.
Anyway, you get your usual audio warning from you-know-what, and then later visual because Route 300 is undulating and the restaurant is located between two barely perceptible hills. If you come from the T-intersection where 207 and 300 split, you can see the cops only after you crest the first hill. Posted S/L is 45, but 55-60 is routine on this portion of the 4-lane highway. Look out.
State Route 300 near State Route 207
New Windsor cops sit in the parking lot next to the Harley Davidson dealership and zap traffic with Ka band radar guns. Close by is a Days Inn, which emits X band signals that tend to get mixed with Ka bands. Motorists need to pay attention so as not to miss the Ka signals their radar detectors give off. Do not shrug off warnings here! I did once and almost got caught.
