Suffern, New York Speed Traps
Thruway (287) south before Rt. 17 in NJ (under Mt. Fuji)
Right before the Rt. 17 exit in Mahwah there is a sheer rock cliff on your right side. There is a guardrail at the base of the cliff and a trooper backs in between the guardrail and the cliff. You can’t see him until you pass and then it’s too late.
East Mayer Dr & Sterling Forest Ln
Usually around high school start/end times 7AM & 2PM, a marked car will park on Sterling Forest Ln, or Robinhood Rd, to catch drivers exceeding the 30mph speed limit on East Mayer Dr – in both directions. Sometimes, they are also out there during lunch period- around 10:30AM
State Route 59 near Riverside Street
Suffern Vol. Fire House on Lafayette Ave (RT. 59), marked unit waits for cars to come down the hill (west bound). Curve in road makes early warning impossible. Speed limit is 30, the steep hill will push the car over that.
State Route 202 near NYS Expressway
On Route 202 heading North as you come out of downtown Suffern the cops sit right before where 202 goes under the NYS Thruway (not visible from 202) and on the side streets just past the bridge. The speed limit is 50 on the rest of 202 but 30mph in this section.
State Route 87 near Interstate 287
The speed trap is on the North bound side of the NY State thruway in the area of Suffern NY. After passing the Rte. 287 exit, the road curves. New York State police have a speed trap setup as you come through the bend, be careful by the time you see them, they got you.
