Troy, New York Speed Traps
Cops lurk in driveways and pick out of state license plates to ticket from the flow of traffic. Be careful if you have a non NYS plate in front of you they , they jump out into the traffic to print out their tickets.
From OakWood Ave. left on Northern Dr. strip mall on the right ,early in the morning (Troy police). And if you think taking a left on Gurley Ave. will avoid this. Not so, Troy Police sit about 500 yards on the right.
Rt. 142 Runs from Top of Hoosick To RT. 40 Speed limit starts at 40 then picks up to 45. As you enter Troy it drops to 30. Troy Police love to sit in the pull off in front of Plank RD. Sat. and Sunday is a big day
You go from 55mph and suddenly it is 30 mph, the city speed limit. The problem is it still looks like country and there are no clear visible speed limit signs. It is an abrupt speed change and definitely speed trap.
Pinewoods Avenue is posted at 30 mph. It is very difficult to keep to such a slow speed, but one must as the road is patrolled heavily. A particularly bad place is the long straightaway which passes by the old cemetery, where the police cars sit in the entrance to the cemetery. They also drive the road extensively and measure speeds from a moving radar gun.
