Matthews, North Carolina Speed Traps

They like to hide under the Hwy. 51 bridge and get northbound cars because, just before the bridge, the speed limit changes from 55 mph. to 45 mph. It’s a good place to catch people new to the area. I got busted my first week here. Welcome to Charlotte!

They sit under the Highway 51 bridge and clock people coming in both directions.

Matthews PD often sits in either the Post Office parking lot, the parking lot next to Vinnie’s, or at the gas station on the corner.

The Cop sits in the entrance to squirril lake park covered partially by bushes and trees on both sides, making it hard to see. It is terrible as he sits right before it goes from 35 mph to 45 mph and often catchs people starting to speed up early on the fast road. Across from thornblade nieghborhood.

Matthews town police sit in patrol car in front of Matthews Business Center where the shoulder is paved. This is over a small hill going away from town of Matthews & is somewhat hidden by trees. 35MPH zone, definitely could be a 45MPH zone. This is a business & industrial park area.
