Matthews, North Carolina Speed Traps

Just a word of advice, don’t go more than 10 over ANYWHERE through Matthews. Matthews police are all over the place and will not hesitate to pull you over. This is where I got my first and only speeding ticket, I was doing 50 in a 35 down this road, when I was the only one on the road on a Saturday morning. I didn’t even realize I was speeding when it happened.

Matthews PD sits in grassy median between E/W lanes of US 74 as it travels under NC51. Westbound traffic coming inbound from I-485 towards Charlotte should beware as speed limit drops from 55 to 45 just before the underpass.

Cop ususally sits in parking lot of Crown Point Elementary School. Highly enforced during school hours when the speed limit is 25, all other times it is 35.

This road has a school on it and a posted speed limit of 25 mph during school hours. However, the 25mph limit is enforced 24 hours a day. On weekend nights it has been targeted by local police to catch motorists driving above the 25 mph speed limit. There have also been road blocks set up on this road.
