Nags Head, North Carolina Speed Traps
Speed drops from 50 to 35 in a school zone. There is a sign but when you are from out of State looking for road signs, etc. it is easy to miss the sign. Hard to read the hours on the sign (when the speed limit drops to 35). We saw no school buses in 7 days there and only one school was visible from the road. Had the cruise set at 50 so I would not be speeding. No flashing light to draw your attention. Local told us the cops sit there waiting for you. He wrote the ticket for 51 though I had the cruise set at 50. I suspect the extra 1 mph raised the fine and points on license. I am 56 and I have had one other speeding ticket in 40 years of driving – 5 over about 5 years ago. No empathy from the cop at all.
If you drive in Nags Head or anywhere in Dare County on Hiways 12, 158, and 64, beware! These cops in these small beach towns are the most aggressive that I have ever seen anyehere in the entire U.S.!
