480 Parkway

North Olmsted, OhioJul 25, 20070 Comments

The stretch of I480 through North Olmsted has no patrols half the time, and very heavy patrols the other half. They’re almost always under bridges, and usually over hills or after curves. When they’re there, they’re there in large numbers – I counted something like 8 cars between the exit for I80 and the airport, which is roughly 10 miles. I drove past one once at 75 (it’s a 60 road) and was completely ignored, but other times, I’ve seen people pulled from ~65mph traffic. Aside from one or two motorcycles, I have no reason to believe they have anything other than plainly marked panda cars with big lights.

This is speed trap central on I-480. North Olmsted cops are notorious for their psychotic enforcement right by the Sterns Road exit. The speed limit is 60mph, so watch out for these money grubbing coppers.

Brookpark Extension Road near Dover Ctr. and Brookpark Rd. Extension intersection

North Olmsted, OhioMar 27, 20060 Comments

The two connecting roads (Dover Center Rd. and Lorain Rd.) have 35mph speed limits, but Brookpark Rd. Extension (short 1/4mi road) is 25mph, so it’s easy to go 35mph by accident.

Driving west from Lorain: The cops like to sit in the northwest corner of the Tops parking lot, all the way in the back. They also like to sit in the church parking lot directly ahead when on Brookpark Rd Ext.

Driving East from Dover Ctr. Road: The cops like to sit in the northwest corner of Tops’ parking lot, as well as the guitar center parking lot, looking west.

Bottom line – go no more than 30mph on Brookpark Rd Ext.!

Exit Number MM # 7 Clague Rd.

Coming off the Clague Rd. exit westbound – when you come to the red light off the feeder, DO NOT turn right on red, in spite of what the rest of the civilized world is doing. They make a fortune off tickets written for "right on red." Of course if you could do so it would relieve congestion on the ramp, and even contribute to safety since there wouldn’t be near as much traffic building back onto the freeway. The cops COULD perhaps direct some of the traffic to keep things moving and therefore keep things safe but NOOOOooo. That would mean lost revenue. Ridiculous. You can count on them hiding, mostly under the 480 bridge.

Interstate 480 West near Exit Number Lorain/Westlake

Police will sit under the overpass of 480 or down Clague Rd where you can see them and get you for turning on red! Do not turn on red, they are there about 3/5 days a week in both AM and PM
