Barrie, Ontario Speed Traps
Essa Road near Timberwalk Trail
Typically travelling North on Essa, just going down the hill towards the 400 Highway, you’ll see the police cruiser (usually unmarked) parked in the townhouse complex parking lot on the left side. If you see him, and you’re going more than 60km/h, it will be too late. If they aren’t at the townhouse complex, they’ll be further down the road on the right sitting at the gas station – waiting for you.
Best advice, when going downhill, put the vehicle into 2nd and coast all the way down the hill.
Mapleview Drive near Essa Road
I’ve often seen the unmarked cars parked along Mapleview between Essa and Bryne drive. At night especially, they’ll use the black car which is very difficult to see as the area is moslty commercial and industrial, making it not particularly well lit. I urge you to be very careful along here at night.
Big Bay Point Road near Catholic School
Lately, more often than not there has been an unmarked car in the parking lot of the catholic school across from the fire station. As I live two seconds away I go by every morning and can safely say that this location is almost constantly monitored by either an unmarked car or a motorcycle cop. It is a four lane road and the speed limit is 50 and it is a school zone, so expect a heavy fine if you are caught.
Little Avenue near Public school
Across the street and about 50m down from the public school is a small street which sometimes has a speed trap. As there is a high school just up the road they will often be there in the morning or around 11, as that is when the teens are most likely to be driving down that way.
Anne Street near School
More than once I’ve seen cops out with the tripod sitting in the exit of the catholic school. Anne is a four lane road in the area and the speed limit is 50 as it is a residential area. Unfortunately it is often difficult to see the trap from any distance as the view is blocked by trees.
