Allentown, Pennsylvania Speed Traps
Rt. 309S/78W coming down the hill before Emmaus Ave exit.
State Police are really devious on this one. In the North bound lanes they park a van perpendicular to the roadway at the base of an entrance ramp and place a radar/laser car behind the van so it can’t be seen by north bound traffic until you are right beside it and by then it is too late. This trap is most often there during AM and PM drive times but I’ve seen it other times also.
15th St south (exit off 22)
15th street south of Route 22 becomes 25 MPH immediately after eastbound off-ramp. 15th street bears right at mini-mart and over a small hill where they are waiting. I’ve seen them early AM, noon and 10 PM.
Route 222 – Hamilton, while in Allentown Police Jurisdiction
There is a "special" task force that would rather catch people going only a few miles over the speed limit than actually stop the high crime in Allentown.
Emmaus Avenue somewhere between Church Road and Honeysuckle
I believe they use radar. There is an area near Gaskill Road where the cops sit and wait. It’s a good spot since you cannot see their car from either direction. The posted limit is 40 mph and it is a heavily traveled road which is quite difficult to stay at 40.
Hanover?Hamilton St. Bridge
Police usually sit in the parking lot of a closed down garage on the east side of the bridge. They mainly stop drivers headed east on Hanover, but have also stopped drivers headed west into center city. Have seen tham all times of day and night – although mainly late night (11:00pm – 3:00am)
