Irmo, South Carolina Speed Traps
Irmo has annexed areas near Ballentine which includes a small portion of Highway 6 (Dreher Shoals Road) within Richland County. Irmo Police will sit in the dark near the Waterford subdivision to catch drivers speeding. This area is 45mph but is a straightaway and a hill, so speeds easily climb.
Now that Irmo has annexed the land that the new Walmart sits on, Irmo Police will hide on Broad River Road near Walmart. The speed limit going toward Irmo changes from 55 to 45 just before Shady Grove Road, where Irmo’s jurisdiction now begins.
Irmo police will hide behind store alleys and trees on North Woodrow Street. When Broad River (going east) forks left, the speed drops from 45 to 40 but the fork right, onto North Woodrow, drops to 35. Don’t forget which is which.
Anywhere along Lake Murray Blvd in Irmo, they will sit and wait. Especially bad is between the Kroger and Columbiana Drive. You better watch your speed, they will pull you for any amount over the speed limit. Speed limit is 35mph. Late at night is especially bad because they can hide in dark driveways and closed businesses.
On the east side of I-26. They sit in one of 3 churches. They hit East and West bound traffic
