Sumter, South Carolina Speed Traps
Heading south on Hwy 15, slow down to 60mph as you round the curve at Dubose Siding Rd. There is a fire dept. where I have seen Sumter County Sheriffs. About a mile further there is a gas station & a used car dealership across the street from each other, this is Foxworth Mill Rd. A sheriff will usually be here 2-3 mornings a month. If you have a good radar detector you can pick him up from a mile away as leaves it on.
Often in the morning there is a patrolman sitting in the field where District 17 was going to build offices, near Murray’s Donuts on the right. He doesn’t make an effort to conceal his car, but apparently that doesn’t matter since I’ve seen several people pulled by that one.
Local officers will park in the parking lot of Westside Baptist Church and check the speeds, then I have seen officers waiting on Ashby Rd. pull out and stop the speeders. I have seen this happen several times. Posted speed is 45 MPH, and I think they are watching the kids coming and going from Sumter High
Going either direction on Highway 521 between Frierson Road and Alice Drive. Mainly sit by the new Fire Department where the speed limit goes from 60 to 45 MPH. Have seen South Carolina Highway Patrol and County Sheriff’s sitting in this location.
Between Alice and Loring Mill…35 is posted and Strictly enforced. Wilson Hall Academy is in this area and the folks that attend make sure that the law is enforced.
