17A going through town

Cottageville, South CarolinaApr 28, 20146 Comments

Several days ago I had the police chief stop me and told me he was going to do me a favor by reducing my ticket from speeding to excessive noise. Its going to save me a whopping 20 buck yet I will still be paying 160 for something I didnt do. I have lived in this area for most of my life and know to stay under the speed limit. This is a scam!

Comments:
My husband was just pulled over today in Cottageville, SC with the exact same circumstances. The officer sited him for a "noise violation". The ticket was for $200. I would agree it's a scam!

If you are heading west, you will see a hedge on your right at the 35mph sign. They sit there where you cant see them. Reminds me of the dukes of hazzard!

OK! I just returned from paying my noise violation (scaled down from speeding, saving me a whole 20 bucks). Seems to be a nice little scam they have going here. Trouble is, after being disabled in 1990 with a brain injury I can not tolerate loud noises. Yet the police chief can hear my radio from two blocks away? With my windows up?

Okay guys and gals. How is it a scam that a Law Enforcement officer pulls you over for breaking the Law. (Speeding) and helps you out by reducing the ticket from Speeding which is an offense that will go on your driving record, you will get points, and your insurance could possibly go up to a city ordinance like noise that will not go on your driving record at all. First of all, pay attention to speed limits when you are driving. Lets stop blaming the police for doing the job they were hired to do, protect the public and enforce the laws.

We had the same experience in November. We're from PA and were towing our 35' travel trailer through there enroute to Florida from Charleston, where had been for a convention. They told us we were doing 48 in a 35. And lowered it to 35. First, we go very slow thru towns for safety reasons. You can't stop on a dime. 2ndly we haven't ever gotten a speeding ticket in 33 years of RVing. 3rd there was no way we were doing 48. And lastly, the transmission on our truck slows us from 45 to 35 in 5 seconds just letting off the gas, and he was on the break for the caution light. This is a total speed trap. He saw out of that plates and say easy $$! They KNOW you won't be back to fight it.

Are the cops of Cottageville really protecting the public and enforcing the laws? Im sorry but a police force of less than 10 officers isn't protecting anybody. Enforce the laws? The only law they are trained to enforce is speeding. Cottagville police have never helped a motorist by reducing a speeding ticket to a noise ticket, only help themselves. This is where the scam takes place. Speeding fines go to the state of SC. Noise and other violation fines go to the town of Cottageville. So who are they helping by reducing the ticket? Me or themselves?
