8 Mile Road near I-275 Southbound exit ramp to 8 Mile Road

Novi, MichiganJun 08, 20073 Comments

At the end of the exit ramp from I-275, southbound to 8 Mile Road is a "no turn on red" sign. If you turn there the Novi police will ticket you even when traffic volume on 8 Mile road is extremely light like on a Sunday morning, This sign should prohibit the turns during rush hours but not during other times as the view is totally unobstructed

Comments:
This is certainly a TRAP and is a great revenue generator. The sign is the old B&W print when many of us are used to the modern red ball no turn on red. The 'trapper' sits under the 275 overpass in the shadows waiting for someone to turn on red. Never see them at rush hour, only when the stay at home moms are out. Novi has many 'bigfoot' houses and McMansions and the downturn has the city revenue starved. The main source of $ is now the road tax.

You will not see them on a busy day because it would be almost impossible for them to catch up to the illegal turner from where they are stationed with the usual traffic backup between them and the turner. I have seen both Northville and Novi cars at that location.

This is definitely a trap as the view is completely unobstructed and the hours are unnecessarily long for the no turn on red. The sign is very small and the cop hides out of view from the motorist. Easily a large revenue generator for the City of Novi; we saw another motorist pulled over by the same cop within ten minutes of when we were pulled over. The stop is at the very edge of Novi's jurisdiction. I'd love to see data from how many tickets are issued at this stop and the percentage of Novi's total traffic tickets generated from one intersection.
