I-96 between Wixom Rd. and I-275/I-696 interchange

The Michigan State Police have a new strategy for entrapping drivers at night on this stretch of I-96. A patrol car, with its high beams on, tailgates the target driver. The glare from the high beams makes it difficult or impossible to tell that the tailgating vehicle is a police car. When the target driver speeds up to take a lane or pull away from the blinding high beams, the cop pulls him over and writes a speeding ticket. Apparently the State Police believe that the pursuit of revenue justifies endangering the lives of Michigan drivers with this unsafe practice.

A School is on the west side & Waverly Drive on the east side of Novi Rd. Cops sit it the school parking lot and across Novi Road on Waverly Dr. They park behind the trees & it is impossible to see them till too late. There is a 25mph during school hours & believe me, it is strictly enforced.

A good general rule about speedtraps: 30 MPH limit. (Novi)

I read online that a speed trap "red flag" is: a 30 MPH speed limit on a secondary paved straight road, located where most of the other roads in the area are posted higher. Some examples in Novi are: 9 mile is 30 MPH past Novi (west); but the same area on10 Mile is 45 MPH. Similarly, Meadowbrook is 30 MPH, while Beck is 45 MPH and Wixom is 35 MPH. Guess where the cops are?

Taft Rd. between 9 and 10 Mile Roads.

This is right in front of Novi High school. Speed limit is 35 MPH. I have been followed (not ticketed) doing 37 MPH. The cop parks on the side of the road near either "Royal Crown" or "Addington Park" sub division entrances. Sometimes he is on the right, sometimes on the left. I usually see a cop there from 9AM-4PM. Very heavily patrolled during the week. Not as much on weekends.
