Between city limits signs on Highway 79 (30 mph zone)

Foley, MissouriJun 08, 20114 Comments

Foley, Missouri is definitely a speed trap. It is very small with one speed zone about a mile in length (30 miles per hour). Tickets are an important revenue resource for the town. There is one four way stop (make a complete stop there). From that stop to the end of the 30 mph zone is about two-thirds of a mile, where it changes to 60 mph (Don’t count on 30 mph in this zone as being safe, 20 is best). Set my cruise control at 30 mph from stop signs and didn’t accelerate until after the 60 mph sign. Forty-to-Fifty yards past the first 60 mph sign, I saw flashing lights and was pulled over past a second 60 mph sign (going 50 mph there). Disputed officer’s statement and asked to see radar reading, he refused, was very upset.

Comments:
I received a ticket going 41 in the 30 yesterday as i was slowing down from the change in speed limit. There was a state law put in place in 1995 called the Macks Creek law. A municipality is not allowed to have more than 35% of its revenues from traffic violations. I would be curious how much of Foley's revenue comes from traffic violations.

^in ref to your couriosity of there revenue. I know for fact they do not turn their info into the state as most citys do. That is why they can do this.

They're still at it. I slowed down immediately upon seeing the 30 MPH sign ahead. It had no warning. Blue lights immediately. He told me I was going 60; then put 62 on the ticket. I'm a tourist, and court date set for 3 weeks away. He knew I wouldn't be back to protest it in court.

Obvious speed trap! Heading N on Hwy 79 towards Foley the speed goes from 60 to 30 in about a 1/4 mile. Cop waits for cars on west side of Hwy. Heading S on Hwy 79 towards Foley the Speed goes from 60 to 45 and then 30. This is a blatant speed trap and huge RIPOFF! They even give you a schedule of fine and court costs. Welcome to Foley, armpit of Missouri.
