City cops like to patrol the entire stretch of East Washington Blvd. from where Maumee splits off just west of New Haven to a bit past the Indiana Institute of Technology (IIT). Travelling west from New Haven along this one-way boulevard, they favor sitting on the side street Edsell Ave. on the north side; in the parking lot of a barber shop on the south side; in the parking lot of the Marathon Station at Glasgow Ave.; in the parking lot of the old Falstaff Brewery on the south side as you crest the hill; and hidden behind the hill created by the soccer field at IIT, on the side street named University St., where I was nailed.
I was singled-out of the middle of a pack of cars travelling at the same speed, about 50 mph on this three-lanes wide boulevard posted at 35 mph. Shame on me for driving a sports car! Similar streets in other cities (i.e., Indianapolis, Detroit, Dayton, Columbus, Cincinnati, Toledo, Cleveland) are typically posted 50 or 55 mph.
The officer lied to me when he pulled me over (and lied again under oath in traffic court), claiming, "I saw you weaving in and out of traffic and passing everything out there all the way from Anthony [Boulevard]." The intersection of East Washington Boulevard and South Anthony Bouldevard is not visible from University Street, as there is a substantial hill between those locations.
Fort Wayne city cops are notorious for lying to support their accusations. I tried unsuccessfully to address this officer’s behaviors with Fort Wayne PD’s Internal Affairs division and in the city court. Neither the officer at Internal Affairs nor the judge were willing to address my accusation.
