Entire Town

Gauley Bridge, West VirginiaFeb 08, 20105 Comments

The town of Gauey Bridge, WV is a beautiful, but tourist Un-friendly town. The posted speed limit in town is 25, and you had better not go over at all. They will not give you a warning, and there are rumors of impropriety by the police force. Also, there have been race-related issues with police officers of nearby towns, so travel through this area at all is hazardous unless you are a local, and not very much better even then.

Comments:
I came through this town once since my being robbed with their speed trap and I was using my radar detector to find where they were hiding and it led me to an unmarked car with gold tinted windows sitting on a parking lot.It sure would seem as though I found their Illegal source of running radar. I used to buy food ,gas and other supplies in this town on our way to Summersville but no more, never will I spend a penny in Gauley Bridge ,thanks to this.

I have lived most of my life of 68 years going thru Gauly Bridge and have not gotton not one speeding ticket. WHY ???????????????? I travel the POSTED SPEED LIMIT. This is a no brainer or is the situation in West Virginia so that anyone of money or "They can't do that to me" attude and think they are amune to speeding tickets. Why are all of you children sobbing tears as it's all your fault. And NO I dont live in Gauley Bridge. Keep up the very good work Officers, as MY family can move through your Town knowing there is not some idiot going 70 miles an hour go to take my family out of this world just to make some sort of statement I "I can drive as fast as I want. Wake up peope, think what the situation would be if things reversed. Simply use your eye and your nugget.

I was driving S. on Rt 16, a two lane highway & not a lot of passing Zones, I did notice that the one car in front of me would speed up when we got to a passing zone & then would slow down when it was not a passing zone. One Dk. colored car would stay a far distance behind me all of this time with other cars behind him. When we got to Gauley Bridge the lead Car did stop at the Dollar Store, it didn't pull in and park, it made a U turn...& was facing the way that we had just come from. This did concern me as to who and why I did pick up speed to get out of there, soon I found out what it was- Speed Trap-unmarked police car pulled me over with his Blue lights flashing all over that little Dk. Colored car. ($150.00) first ticket since the late 60's, & it had to come in this manner. I am one of these people that had to leave my state to find work after WW11, after 50 years I did return and now I am ashamed of what some Mayors/Officers are doing.

I too will never buy anything in Gauley Bridge, WV. I was not speeding but I still got a ticket. The cop told me if I do not contest it and pay the fine he will not turn it in to the State DMV. A friend traveling an hour ahead of me also got a ticket in this this town. He did go to court because he was not speeding either but he still had to pay. Aviod this town at all cost. If you are headed to Summersville go around Gauley Bridge or if you cannot never spend a dime in this town.

The fine folks in Gauley Bridge have pulled us 3 times in the 4 years my kids were at Marshall. First time was over illegal registration....which turned into a speeding ticket when we produced valid registration for our car. Second was a 'speeding' ticket for 2 mph over which turned into a car search which I did not allow. Third was a tag expired which was vaild but I had forgotten. They claim jurisdiction over auto tags on a local level. I will check into that. The officer is ALWAYS rude and very short tempered. Once demanding my grand daughter to stop crying because she was scared. I support police most of the time. But these folks are rude at best....and I suspect more....
