Highway 100
Police appear to take advantage of tourists trying to make it to South Padre Island. They drive back and forth on Highway 100, circling like buzzards, waiting anxiously for drivers that miss the 30 mph speed limit change. I saw the sign, slowed down and still got a ticket for doing 40 in a 30, which was bogus.

I grew up in the area...so I know other routes to SPI (there are at least 2 other good routes). I have never received a ticket there in Los Fresnos - mainly because I do not go there (rarely)....and when I do go to Los Fresnos, I do NOT spend any money in the city. That place could fall off of the face of the earth and I would not care - because they do not care. You are definintely right. Those clowns are about making money (legal extortion)...save your money, take an alternative route as the distance is the same - and so is the travel time to SPI. If you do get a ticket there, request a jury trial and keep the ticket in limbo.

This little town is notorious for speed traps and they will get you for anything. Expired tags once cost me $85. Most other places it ten dollars. Entire town is good for speed traps but most are on Hwy 100 East of town but the West side has its days also. Be careful out there...
