Highway 100 East or West

Los Fresnos, TexasAug 08, 20143 Comments

Leaving South Padre Island me and my family was heading into Los Fresnos on our way out when I notice the speed limits drop to 45mph, (I slowed), then it dropped to 35pmh, (I slowed). I came to a red light. A police cruiser proceeded to pull behind me and run my plates, observed my family in the vehicle, then turned on his lights. I figured he just wanted to see who I was since I was from another city. He told me to step out the vehicle, then he TOLD me I was speeding doing 57 in a 45. What the what! So I will be calling the Chief of Police to complain as well as filing a complaint on the officer. I will suggest everyone to do so. I went straight to the courthouse at 200 N.Brazil, Los Fresnos to plea not guilty and I will be filing a complaint on the officer.

This EXACT place and speed happened to me and my family while on vacation. I was not 100 feet past the sign where the speed limit dropped from 65 to 45. I was slowing down from 65 and had gotten to 57 within the first 30 yards. The police cruiser was going in the opposite direction about 100 yards in front, passed me, noticed that I had a family in the car, did a U turn and turned on his lights. He did not like where I immediately pulled over so I had to endure his wrath over that. Then when I finally pulled into a location he liked he demanded to know how I could have possibly be doing 12 miles over the speed limit while my 10 year old daughter was crying in the back seat. He then told me I had to appear in court, in person, within 2 weeks. Of course this was wrong but none of us knew it at the time. All of this was so unnecessary.

This is exactly the same thing that happened to me at the same place. I noticed the 45 mph speed limit sign and slowed down and the 30 mph sign and slowed down further. But when I came to the same red light, an officer stopped me and said I was driving at 58 mph in a 45 mph zone. He also checked my plate and noticed my family before wrote down the ticket. I guess he just wanted to make sure we are from different cities. Even my 10-year old son told the officer seemed to just want some money desperately right after we left the scene.

This is almost exact same thing that happened to us during a trip back from south padre island. A cop chased us from thousand yards behind. Initially, I thought he was on the way to some emergency, instead, he started to follow me when he got close to me. He asked insurance and license, then within 20 seconds or so, he wrote me a ticket for 70 on 60mph zone. I was stunned that he was so quick to write me a ticket. From my rear mirror, I did not see he went into the car to check my information first like other cops do. It feels like they already checked out my information before he started to chase me. I think they targeted me since all the drivers in the front drove faster than I did. I strongly feel this is a speed trap and I feel like they "serve and collect" instead of "serve and protect". This ticket really discouraged us from going to south padre island for a vacation in the future.
