Highway 300/19 Pelham, Georgia

When I told The Judge that I-19 in Pelham, Georgia was listed as a ‘Speed Trap’ He asked me if I believed all that I read on the Internet. Well after fighting a speeding ticket in His court I can say ‘Yes’ to that posting. I sat in the Courtroom for over 5 hours and during that time everyone was found ‘Guilty’. Then it was my turn, I produced evidence in the form of maps, photos, and even showed a mistake on the ticket I received – all to no avail. The only good thing is the fine was the same as it would have been had I just mailed in the money with the ticket – I believe you should always ‘state your case’. My time in Traffic Court was well spent when you consider I saw firsthand how ‘Small Town Justice’ worked. I learned another valuable lesson – Pelham is a town that I for one will never stop in and in fact I plan to do my best to give it a wide berth and tell everyone I know to do the same – as far as I am concerned I have given Pelham all the money they will ever receive from me – I hope the business owners can live with how people in the neighboring towns are being fleeced out of their money.

I very seldom travel US19 from Albany to Tallahassee....primarily because the Police Department in Pelham sit right on US19 specifically to write tickets for speeding.....please realize that the City of Pelham itself is not centered on US19....US19 basically bypasses the residential and business sections of the small town.....unlike Camilla or Thomasville where you have to literally go thru the towns business districts.....right before you get to Pelham the speed drops from 65 to 55 then down to 45....if you were driving at 65 and took your foot off the gas your vehicle will still not be down to 45 in time to avoid getting a ticket.....I was about 4 car lengths behind a huge semi and was traveling at the same speed....the semi turned off in front of me and received no ticket....I got a ticket for 61 in a 45 mph zone.....my fine was $246.00.....I'm 68 yrs old and retired....first ticket in over 50 years.....the Officer had no interest in my registration or insurance.....I know the town of Pelham as I spent my childhood there.....it's strictly a way to generate income.....and they have no shame in doing it.

Major speed trap, on US 19 in Pellham, GA. I have the exact same story as many on this website for that area. "Right before you get to Pelham the speed drops from 65 to 55 then down to 45....if you were driving at 65 and took your foot off the gas your vehicle will still not be down to 45 in time to avoid getting a ticket"($400.00) I can pretty well guess, that the cops fight to "SIT" in that spot, and laugh all day long on how many cars they caught that day. Nothing in the landscape, to my knowledge, warranted a slowdown of speed. Let alone 2 speed limit changes. No residential area, no businesses looming ahead. Same landscape at 65 mph as when it was 45mph.
