Highway 378

Turbeville, South CarolinaSep 19, 20022 Comments

Town police drive a unmarked white ford crown victoria. They sit under a pine tree in someones front yard. The police car is hidden in the 35 mph zone and just infront of the 45 mph sign. You will see the sign increase your speed before you see the town police car. This speed zone is outside of town.

Comments:
This is a four lane limited access highway. You will see a sign increasing your speed to 45 before you see the sign for 35. No lights, no intersections, straight road. Nothing to slow you down, but there is a sheriff behind the bushes and you will get a ticket. To make you feel better they put down a lower speed and tell you that it costs less. Stay on 95 in South Carolina; don't exit and; don't visit.

I was riding with a former friend who had just flew into Myrtle Beach from Cartagena Colombia. She has never been to S.C. and I live in Sumter and I had not been to Turbeville in years. We saw the first speed limit sign saying the speed was 45, and the cop said she was going 47, and before she could get below 45, the speed changed to 35, and she was going 43 according to the officer. She was given a ticket for $288.00, but the officer said he would ask the judge to lower the fine if she went to court. This same woman had came up here to care for my mother who has cancer while I had surgery and was recovering, as I am taking care of my mother alone. We paid for the womans r/t airline ticket and sent her a weeks advance and ended up losing $2000.00 because she left after 8 days, when she was supposed to stay until at least mid July. SO I am glad she was cited, although this was a speed trap. We were behind a older pick up, and they were going faster than us, and she was driving my 2011 GMC Acadia, and while we were stopped 2 other cars were pulled over one going east and the other west. IF your not a local, you would be safe going at least 5 mph below the marked speed limit and watch for the signs posted close together. This was on a Saturday and I guess the cops pay day was getting near. Speeding is wrong, but a speed trap is also wrong. Those of you heading to the beach this summer remember, Turbeville is a speed trap and remind your driver of this as soon as you can see the first speed limit sign. Have a Safe and Happy Memorial Day.
