Highway 380, Northbound, J Avenue, Lane 2

Cedar Rapids, IowaJun 25, 20153 Comments

We just received a citation for speeding in this area. We are out of state residents with clean driving records too. We were shocked to receive this citation. I understand city officials were asked to take down these because they were in violation and yet drivers are still being cited. There is also a class action lawsuit in process too that we may join. It isn’t fair. I believe this area for cameras is not for safety. It is for money. Drivers beware.

Have you heard any more on this? I am also from out of state and received a ticket in the mail today.

Don't feel bad out-of-staters. The city of Cedar Rapids is an equal opportunity scammer. I just contested a speeding ticket that I received while passing the infamous I-380 NB at J Avenue NE camera. I have lived in Cedar Rapids my entire life. I have driven by all of the I-380 speed traps hundreds of times. I always drive the speed limit by all of the hidden cameras as I know their exact locations. The ticket stated that, as you probably already guessed, I was driving 68 mph in a 55 mph zone. I understand that a class action suit against the City of Cedar Rapids was dismissed in court regarding the legality of these cameras. I wonder if there are any other legal avenues such as citing the private speed camera owners as to the reliability of their cameras and where the camera owners' interests lie in the amount of revenue being generated by these cameras. Thoughts?
