Highway 52 N

Society Hill, South CarolinaJul 13, 20030 Comments

Wish I had read this page a couple of days ago. The diligent Captain of the Society Hill Police Department nabbed another dangerous outlaw from out of state (i.e., me) who thought he had made his get-away as he turned left onto 52 N, left the obvious residential area of town, and without thinking any crime was being committed, sped up to normal highway speed. Unbeknownst to him, he was still in a 35 mph zone! A simple $250 lesson: avoid this town. To the fine citizens of Society Hill who read this message, I appreciate your concerns about strangers speeding through your town and endangering your children and dogs and elderly citizens. However, you’ve got to realize that this situation is creating lots of bad PR, anger and ill will against you. No matter what you may think of the people who have posted here, it is clear to everyone that your city government is preying on strangers as a means of fattening its coffers. (That’s the best that can be said. Someone with a more suspicious nature might actually wonder where all this money ends up.) A couple of suggestions: Purchase a couple of bill-boards and post them at your city limits which state that Society Hill has a zero tolerance for speeders and aggressively patrols its streets. Also, have your policemen sit near the city limits south of town, in the wide open view of travelers, with their radar guns pointed south to catch the idiots that ignore them and drive dangerously. That way, the rest of us normal, for-the-most-part (I must admit this is my third speeding ticket in 36 years of driving) law abiding drivers will clearly get the message without spending our hard-earned dollars needlessly.
