Hwy 51 into Cario along Washington Ave.

City and County officers patrol this strip all day long. Especially on weekends. They seem to look for out of state plates. The minimum fine is 75.00 so they can make a pretty penny for the county in one afternoon. When I traveled that stretch of road I was three cars pulled over within 15 miles. BE CAREFUL.

Comments:
I'm live in Illinois, but was driving my parents out of state car through Cairo and and was ticketed for going "44" in a 30 mph zone despite the fact that I genuinely was going 30. It was a total scam. When I showed up to court to fight it, the judge encouraged me to talk with the prosecutor while he went into his chambers. I was then offered a plea deal that was twice what it would have cost to pay the fine and do a "defensive driving" course. When I refused, the prosecutor and the cop went out to meet in private and came back to tell me that the ticket was dropped because the cop "couldn't remember" any of the details of the stop. Case dismissed. Basically, my take is that it was a kangaroo court and their M.O. is evidently to prey on out of state motorists whom they don't believe will be back to fight it (I did not see any other cases, however, because most were scheduled for the 9:00 session and mine was the 11:00 overflow session and I was the first one). Incidentally, one of the votes for "this is NOT a speed trap" was me mistaking it for comments.
