Hwy 51 south of Troy

Troy, TennesseeApr 25, 20102 Comments

You are out of town on 4 lane that is desolate, and nothing but farm fields all around. No sign to say you have left Troy or its 45 mph speed limit.
I resumed speed and was ticketed for 6mph over the 45 mph 21 steps from the 70 mph sign. This is a sad little town that uses passer bys as its revenue.

Comments:
All these postings are basically the same because Troy is only about a mile wide.

I travel through Troy and Union City on a regular basis on my way from Memphis into Kentucky. I definitely agree that the Troy area IS a speed trap. However your assessment about the signage is not correct. Tennessee law specifies how speed has to be stepped down in increments. It can not go from say 70 down to 45. Again I travel this area on a regular basis and when leaving Troy, going South on 51 towards Dyersburg, it is well marked stepping up from 45 for about two or so miles to 55 then up to 70. Without a doubt, it is a speed trap and I have several family members who have been caught in it so I put the cruise control on and watch my speed because they WILL get you. And don't get me wrong here, I am no goody two shoes, I am a lead foot who, as the song says, "can't drive 55" You just have to know when and where.
