I-95 N&S, Rt. 58 E&W

Emporia, VirginiaJan 05, 20112 Comments

Northbound I-95 travelers depart 70 MPH North Carolina, pass the Va. Welcome Center in a 65 MPH zone, and 10 miles later enter the 60 MPH Emporia law enforcement enterprise zone. There many travelers get a southern sheriff Welcome to Va. to remember. Great for the Old Dominion’s image. Law enforcement in Emporia is about revenue not about public safety. I have traveled through witnessed Emporia for decades and been lucky so far. Your only defense is awareness and do not patronize any part of this pathetic community, especially the price gouging Sadlers. I do confess to using the toilets there.

Comments:
All of HWY 58 from South Hill to Suffolk is heavily patrolled by SHP, local police and county deputies. Emporia is among the worst. I've seen Emporia PD in the median on I-95 positioned where it was actually dangerous for them and passing motorists. HWY 58 is the last road in VA you want to speed on.

Everyone I know has gotten a speeding ticket in this area! I suggest Emporia/Greenville county just install toll booths at the county line as traffic fines seem to be their primary source of revenue. That way the officers won't be exposed to the dangers of constantly standing on the roadside and inevitable carpal tunnel syndrome from writing all those tickets. Also the officers can focus on REAL crime (like public entrapment for example) and traffic court judges and staff can remind their families what they look like! Why should our car insurance companies reap the benefit of our increased premiums when Emporia can keep the money for themselves?!
