Interstate I-49

City police officers park on the shoulder behind an overpass and zap interstate travelers. It is well known that the City of Washington in St. Landry Parish generates over $300K/year using this tactic of issueing city tickets on a state Interstate.

Comments:
This is definitely a speed trap!!! I received a ticket yesterday after going 77mph in a 70mph part of I-49 at mile marker 25. I tried to google the town of Washington to see if there was a website to pay the ticket and came across a lot of people complaining about the speed trap issue. It's a fact that I was going over the speed limit, but the price they charge are absoultely ridiculous!!!! If I would have known I would have to pay $165 for going 7 miles over, I would have gone 10 miles over the speed limit and paid the same $165. I know the town of Washingston is small and depends on traffic tickets for revenue, but they really need to get it together and find a better way to generate revenue. They definitely won't be making any more money off of me because I'll know on my next trip to avoid the town of Washington. It's so sad to be a town that the only thing you are known for is from writing tickets!!!

Every thing stated in the previous comment applies to my experience in early April. 77 in a 70. Really? What other purpose does a local police officer have on an interstate other than to write these types of tickets to generate revenue?
